We want to THANK all who shared some time with us NOMADS at their homes.

HAVE WE LOST OUR MINDS- - - - AGAIN!!!!!

Season Greetings from IOWA!!!!!!

After seeing a fantastic performance of the WISSMANN FAMILY in Branson, on Saturday Morning, we loaded Litl Red and headed for Iowa. We made the trip across Missouri with out any major weather problems. We did encounter some ice and snow as we approached the Iowa line. We arrived at our motel in Marengo around 10: p.m. (not bad only about 8 1/2 hrs. and 435 miles.)

On Sunday we awoke to -12 temperatures and blowing snow, but we continued onto Belle Plaines' Christ United Methodist Church (our home church) to worship with them in the 8:30 worship. Only around 35 there due too weather... sorry we missed so many hugs.

We then had a quick cup of Hot Chocolate at the LINCOLN CAFE, then headed out to the assisted living center and lunch with Loretta Cronbaugh ,her son and daughter-in-law Lowell and Nelda joined us. We then visited and even joined in the weekly church services there at the center.

After lunch we had a brief visit with Jim and Cindy Weldon, finding Jim in good spirits. We then stopped by the Hinschburger Home and found Terri Jo and Kurt to spend some time with and received some friendly chat and hugs.... is so good to catch up with dear friends. Then Sue and John Grieder, invited us to stay and have a quick bite to eat for the evening meal.

On Monday, Judys doctor appointment got moved to the afternoon. So since we have the TRAVELING CATS along and needed to take them to the animal motel (Vets in Belle Plaine) for a little vacation from us. We ventured out into the north county for a visit at the Richard and Cheryl Cibula Ranch where we had another great visit and exchange of hugs.. we even made up out of their drive on the 3rd try!!!!! lol.

Dr. Findlater visit went pretty much the way we anticipated... am armed with updated prescriptions. sent away with see you in the spring. Always a food visit with a medical professional who understand what and WHY you are doing things.

We made it to Davenport in the early evening and gathered up Johns kids and checked into the motel for 2 days of CHRISTMAS Sharing.

Please Pray for safe travels as we are going to be traveling about 22o miles tomorrow to Judy's boys and the weather isn't sounding too pleasurable for such a trip.

May God continue to Bless each and every one''

THE AMAZON LINE HAS RUN OUT---YEAH!!!!!

As of 10:30 p.m. 12/17/08 John is retired again.... and boy is more r&r needed sorely. He worked on the gift wrapping shipping line, placing the outgoing shipping cartons into the sealer for the delivery trucks (or maybe they were actually Santa's sleigh). He spent the last week there.

Between the cold (which brought frozen water line,at the pump in the holding tank. Then the circuit broad in the refrigerator went out so we have not had any refrigeration since Tuesday. We will be leaving Elk City State Park early Friday morning shortly after daybreak. We have an appointment at Camping World, near Springfield, Mo. around 10:30 am, then unto Turkey Hollow Campground near Branson . Today we had a drizzle rain and fog ALL day.

As there will be many RVers leaving here this week -end, along with many holiday travelers, please remember all travelers along with your daily prayers this week.

After the Wissmann Family Christmas Show in Branson on Saturday morning, the little Red Toyota is moving towards eastern Iowa. So if you see a red blurr go past wave and be careful (you won't know which one of us may be driving).

We don't know when we will be back online, so we hope that everyone has a Wonderful Holiday Season and everyone that has pecan pie, please eat an extra piece for John.

We are excited that we will get to pass out some special HUGs while we are in Iowa. We are even more excited about the NEW opportunity that GOD has presented for us, as CHAPLAINS with CHRISTIAN RESORT MINISTRIES, Intl.....BUT We are not completely giving up on NOMADS. as we have 3 projects (3 weeks each) coming up in Texas, beginning in late January.

MAY GOD GRANT YOU ALL YOUR WISHES
and BLESS each one.

HUGS from John and Judy ----THE LONGS-ON THE ROAD

Holiday MEOWS from Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles-THE TRAVELING CATS.

EXHAUSTION HAS SET IN----- FOR THE ENDEAVOR CREW

SEASON GREETINGS FROM ENDEAVOR CREW:

Hola, Hi, Howdy, Hey, just remembering the different ways we have greeted ya'all this past year.....It has been a VERY rewarding experience for the most part. Have met and worked with a lot of new friends, spent some time (how be it way too short) with a lot of old friends and family.

John's time is winding down at Amazon (only 4 more scheduled working nights 10 hours each, but who is counting) HE has finally figured out, for the most part, how to stow away the incoming merchandise. Then on his overtime night he was on the receiving dock checking items in by the pallet load....a good night here was 8000 to 8500 cases, notice the was cause Thurs/Friday they did 13000. A note in the Express letter says they are getting 30% more production from 1/3 the employees. Who says Old folks can't work.:-)

Judy has spent this week preparing for the craft show over in Edna, Ks. which was today, She made enough money that we can attend the farewell Mexican Dinner tomorrow at Coffeyville, after the CHRISTIAN RESORTS MINISTRIES, final RV worship experience under the Bakers.PLEASE PRAY for them and all the others that are trying to beat the predicted rain/ice/snow storm Sunday Evening That all who have left in the last couple of days and those leaving tomorrow have save traveling, Judy is still having up and down days medically, bearing along better a lot.

We will be leaving Elk City State Park on Thurs the 18th, taking the RV over to Branson, catch the WISSMANN FAMILY Christmas in Branson final performance on Sat. Morning, then off for IOWA ( are we in our right minds, but family and friends deserve the effort) following the show.. John says it is only 425 miles if we use the BACK ROADS some. Arriving in Marengo between 7:30 p.m. and 9; p.m. They will find a comfy bed awaiting them at the SUDBURY MOTEL. Then should be attending the early worship service at CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Belle Plaine, Ia.------hoping to see LOTS of FRIENDS there.

Monday we will be visiting Dr. Findlater, at Marengo, for our semi-annual check over. Then dash down to Davenport , , for Christmas Celebration for John's Children on Monday afternoon, til the Morning of the 24th. We then load up Little Red and head to Independence, IA. gather up Rich, then push unto Iowa City , spend the next day or 2 with Andy. Then return Rich to Indy. Then start our trip back towards Branson and "home on wheels" the Traveling Cats. AND MUCH NEEDED R&R. Til the Jan. 7th for the beginning Chaplain training for CHRISTIAN RESORT MINISTRIES, Intl.--- We will be there til Jan.15th then head towards the Border with stops along the way, as we have 14 days in which to travel the 400+ miles.

We just want to remind everyone for the REASON we celebrate THE SEASON that it is the TIME that JESUS came to be born in the flesh so that WE ALL could have everlasting life.

GoodSearch : Support your favorite charity or school....

.... like CHRISTIAN RESORT MINISTRIES, INTERNATIONAL.

That's right. Now, if you use GoodSearch search engine, instead of others such as Google, and designate CRM Int'l as your charity, each search will generate approximately $.01 for CRM. The GoodSearch FAQ page will answer any question you might have.

You will find the CRM/GoodSearch link in the menu on the right. We would greatly appreciate your participation in this great way to raise funds for our ministry.

Not only will your searches contribute to CRM, but there is a GoodShop link on the GoodSearch page, at the bottom, that has many well known online stores (Wal-Mart, Amazon, Overstock, etc.) where we all do a lot of our shopping anyway. When you use GoodShop when making your online purchases, the store gives a percentage to CRM from your purchase?

We would ask that you all should check out this unique opportunity for our special causes and maybe even consider it for yours/

To Each and Everyone GODs Blessing and Good Tidings.
And don't forget to get your Holiday HUGS from us LONGS ON THE ROAD ,,Judy and John

AN OPEN LETTER

Dear Santee Claws:

We Traveling Cats have been really, really, really good this year. We don't make messes in the Motocasa.

We stay inside(most of the time) like good 'kids' should do, so we don't track in mud and dirt.

I eat all of my food with out fussin' and pebbles gets a few left overs.

We usually go and stay out of the way when the motor starts up,

We also don't beg for our special treats.

Which brings me to what we would like for Christmas:
I would love some more new cat nip toys, and a Huge bag of cat food all my own.\
Pebbles would like her paw to hurry up and get better, so she can run and jump around. She also would like to have an extra treat time of day.She also would like the ability to be outside in a warmer climate.

We overheard Dad saying that he would like a new sawsall, some new jeans, the Wissmanns new Christmas CD, and also he would appreciate NOT having to work the next 2 weeks- 11 hrs a day 5 days a week.(Boy will he ever be Grumpy ,Just like that Scrooge guy, in the movie we all watched the other night)

Please bring Mom some nicer weather (or keep it mild til we get to Texas)
She also could use a new mixer we heard her ask Dad about. She is also wishing for a better sound system here in motorhome. She also wishes that her aches and pains decrease more, so she could be more active.

Things are really moving around here with dad being gone either to Amazon from 5:30 pm til 4:am now and next week til 5:am.( ummm ----maybe I could warm his side of the bed up, til he gets home.)
Or he is away to work at Coffeyville Bible Church, helping to install new lights, fans and anything else electrical.

Mom is busy getting ready for the craft show over at Edna, Ks. on the 13th,(she has over 35 bracelets ready)

We hope that the reindeer are all rested up and ready for their long adventure on Christmas.

We are leaving out cookies and milk for you and big bunches of carrots for Rudolph and the gang.

We promise We WILL NOT be up when you arrive so please be careful walking around...

Your NICE-FRIENDLY-SWEET :

The Traveling Cats: Bamm-Bamm ( that me the big yellow one) and Pebbles (the one with her paw bandaged up.) wish you and yours a joyous Holiday and a prosperous New Year.

BORROWING----SOME SNIPETS

Hi ALL:

We hope you all had as enjoyable THANKSGIVING as we did. We are going to try to "borrow" some pictures from our NEW FRIENDS and fellow CRM,Intl Chaplians Don and LaVon Baker's blog :

I proudly introduce to you, John & Judy Long, who have joined the "ranks" of Christian Resort Ministries, International. They enjoy doing NOMAD ministry projects and John has already volunteered his services to do some electrical work for a local church that has relocated since the 2007 flood. They will travel to Branson to go through Chaplain Training when they leave Coffeyville in a couple of weeks. Welcome to CRM, John & Judy! We are blessed to have you with us.John & Judy Long

As you can see we have been "officially" invited to start our training with CRM,Intl. The above picture was during the Express/ Amazon.com Thanksgiving Pot Luck Dinner. Around 300 attended.

Here is a shot of the fellow workcampers at the Dinner.

[Bear with me, I will get it figured out. :-)]100_0069
100_0105

The event was held at Kansas National Guard Armory near the Amazon plant in Coffeyville, Ks.

Since this "borrowing" seams to be working right, we are going to use some of the pictures of ELK CITY STATE PARK that they took a couple weeks ago.
The next few shots are at Elk City State Park where a few of the Amazon.com workampers are parked.Elk City State Park, KS A good view of the lake.Elk City State Park, KS

We are about 1/2 mile from this point.but can see the water out our window
Notice the rest rooms in the background.Elk City State Park, KS This is a very pretty place to park, but it's a bit too remote to have to drive to Coffeyville 4 - 5 days a week. Great for relaxing, though. Elk City State Park, KS

We are in the group of 30 campers in the background.

John has been doing some electrical work at Calvary Bible Church, which has just recently purchased an older building to replace the one they lost in 2007 devastating flood. We are going to take some pictures there over the week end to share.

May GODS love spill over in your lives
and hoping you can feel our HUGS

The Longs

p.s Pebbles has to stay at the Vets tonight and undergo some minor surgery on her front paws... Both Mom and Bamm Bamm our sad that she isn't where she belongs.

THANKSGIVING

ENDEAVOR GREETINGS:

Psalms 95:2-3 "Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the LORD is the great GOD, the great King above all gods.

We are rejoicing these days for a number of answered prayers.

1.) We only have 3 more weeks here at Amazon.com of hard work-10hrs days.

2.) We have had to make some of our plans for 2009 and all the schedules worked out (better for all) us and NOMADS.

3.) We have been invited to join the Christian Resort Ministries, Intl. for training as RV park Chaplains, This training will take place on Jan, 7th, 9th. and 12th-14th at Branson, Mo. We will be joiningg our friends Jack and Karen Gregory (who were our campground Chaplains at Adventureland this past summer.) who will also be doing some training at that time.

4.) Judy's son Rich, is moving into a group home soon.

5.) Judy's health is maintaining, although she still has some
days/nights worse than others.

6.) That the weather looks favorable for traveling (via the Red Toad) to Iowa for a short Holiday Season of sharing with our family and friends.

So here is our tentative schedule
Moving over to Branson with the RV to the Escapes park around the 19th of December. then heading onto Eastern Iowa for the weekend. and returning to Branson some time before News Years.

Then around Jan. 15th we will head South to the Border with stops at Rainsbows End in Livingston,Tx. Then side trips through Corpus Christie, South Padre Island, and Kings Ranch.

Then we will become NOMADS for projects at Camp Thicket, near Weslaco,Tx. We will be there for 6 weeks, as we are doing a double period project, we discovered that in period 3 there was only one male team member. Then unto Luling, Tx. near San Antonio, Tx. for period 4 project. thru April 2nd. Then we have 18 days to return to Adventureland Park, in Iowa, where again John will be a rides operator. and if Judy's health maintains stability she may be able to work part time in the foods dept working special events functions. We are plannning on being in Altoona on April 20th to begin work on the 26th.

We will be there through Sept.28th then we will probably do another NOMAD project before embarking on our CHRISTIAN RESORT MINISTRIES, Intl. assigment for the winter months.

We are hoping each and everyone of you have a THANKFUL and safe Holiday. If any of you want an extra piece of Pumpkin Pie you may have Johns

May GODS grace and Blessings go with each

and feel the HUGS from US -----THE LONGS-ON THE ROAD; JOHN AND JUDY. The Traveling cats say their meow greetings also.

AMAZON WEEK 2 IS OVER --- THANK YOU GOD

ENDEAVOR HOWDIES:

Week 2 at Amazon-C0ffeyville,Ks. is really over . John only had to put in 4-10 hour days this week. He split his work time in between 2 areas ,receiving eaches an stowing eaches. He says he has used muscles, he forgot that he had.

Judy spent her LONG days (and nights) BEADING making bracelets and earrings for the upcoming Arts and Craft Show in Edna, Ks. on Dec 13th. She and 2 other workampers have gone together to reserve a booth space for their respected craft items. Her health is a 6 on the scale of 10 good 1 bad.

Tonight our friend Pat Carter, from Adventureland, also working here. She told us about this struggling church, that is coming back from the great flood of '07, that had a need for some minor work typical NOMAD type of project. So we went with her, after supper (at a VERY GOOD MEXICAN FAST FOOD) TACO MAYO, to bible study at this church, and to see what if any thing we could help with in our free time.

As we approach the THANKSGIVING Season we have SOO much to be thankful for and we just want to thank GOD and each of you for being so gracious to us.

We ask that we all remember those that are less fortunate than us, and maybe even share a little with them in some manner.

Continue praying for our fellow NOMADS as they are on projects AND THAT MORE PEOPLE CONSIDER BECOMING NOMAD
S. As there was some projects canceled the last 2 periods of 2008 for lack of volunteers.

Please pray for the CHRISTIAN RESORT MINISTRIES CHAPLAINS as they are gearing up for their ministries to the "SNOWBIRDS" as many are hitting the RV parks in the South and West.

May GOD continue to BLESS and KEEP you.

And please feel special holiday HUGS from us

THE LONGS-Judy,John and the Traveling Cats.

SPECIAL REQUEST.

Greetings from the ENDEAVOR:

We would like all of you to join us in prayer as we are seeking out the LORDS will for us in the following matter.

As many of you know The LONGS have been on the road full time RVing, part of the time was as NOMADS, and part was as WORKAMPERS. Well as workampers at Adventureland , this past summer we were introduced to a ministry called Christian Resort Ministries INTRL, they had a Chaplin in the RV canpground, to lead out in organizing Bible Studies, lead in Sunday morning worship service and help in retreats and seminars.

Then we get here to Coffeyville, Kansas and there is a CRMintl Chaplin here also, well long story short, in visiting with them here and them learning of John's background and "talants" along with Judy's desire for missions The Chaplin has urged us to join them and become RV park chaplins,

So we are considering it and still plan on doing at least 2 NOMAD projects a year.

here is a link to the ministry
http://www.crmintl.org/
look it over and let us know what the LORD might want us too do.

HIS BLESSINGS go along with OUR HUGS

The LONGS: Judy and John

p.s. John did survive the 1st 5 -10hrs days only 26 more to go

O O O O O O O O O MY!!!!!!!

Meow meow meow (hello dear friends) :

Bamm- Bamm here, Dad is sleeping and Mom has gone after the mail. Pebbles and I heard Mom tell Dad that he needed to do this week's post on here. Dad mumbled he would do it when he was awake. So we decided we get our paws on here while we had a chance... Dad is out of it today,,, last night was his 1st 10 hr day(5pm-3:30am) then he had a 35 min. drive home. Boy! is he beat. We think he may have to work a 5th work day this week.

Mom is doing pretty well, her meds are about to end this week, but she says she has a plan "B" . She is really getting involved in some funny books with all kind of letters in a box and she trys to draw circles around words she finds in them, That and HGTV occupies the majority of her time,, although she reminded Dad that he needs to get her long card table set up, so she can bead again. There is a craft show coming up and she wants to take some of her creations over there.

Pebbles just scooted under the covers by Dad, as it is Storming out, with Lighting and Thunder. So I am trying to decide where I should head too.(She gets upset if I try to get close to her and Dad.)

As the Folks would say

MAY GODS BLESSINGS and Their HUGS go with each of you.

BACK TO WORK-AND THIS IS RETIREMENT!!!!

ENDEAVORS HOWDY to all:

John started on Sunday night at Amazon and has worked his 1st 20 hours. Sunday night was spent in SAFETY SCHOOL, where safety techniques was shown to assist in a safer work environment.

Monday night was spent on the receiving dock moving loads that had been received, to the aisle for placement (STOWING) into their respected picking areas.

Tuesday evening found him in the DVD;CD; and Books area learning how to scan each item into a holding bin,(those darn hand held scanners are about to do damage to his remaining brain cells.)

Wednesday night he returned to the same area and garments was added when we ran out of work, then just as he was at the clock to time out a storm hit the area and knocked out the power..he still may be on the time clock!!!

Judy spent her week reading and working on her new favorite pastime of doing crossword puzzles and circle words. She also got all of the ENDEAVOR squared away. We also found a laundromat in Independence that was really clean and pleasant to spend a couple of hours in.

We would like to make a side trip over to Branson, Mo. to take in the WISSMANN FAMILY CHRISTMAS SHOW at the Chuck Wagon Theater.
10 Am daily Monday through Saturdays til Christmas. John is trying to arrange a trip for others also (see all that ACTIVITIES TRAINING is coming into use). While we are there we want to see the Christmas lights also.

Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles are R E A L L Y liking it here at ELK CITY LAKE STATE PARK. They are trying to get outside as much as possible (in spite of the possible run in with coyotes and other vermits ) They spend thier days either sleeping or eating.

Amazon is about a 35 minute drive each way, but the advanages of being here in ECLSP is worth it. We have 3 bars on cell phone reception, which includes the air card for the computer. We receive 7 local television over the air stations, and of course we have our DIRECT-TV SATILITTE set up to receive OUR favorite channels. Also the scenery of the fall colors of the trees and the lake is beautiful. Altough today we are getting a strong wind with gust to 60 mph and sustaining around 45mph.

We have seen alot of our fellow ADVENTURELAND co-workers here at Amazon. We heard through them that BOBBIE WILLIAMSON is doing much better, The JACKSONS arrived safely in Destin, and they send thanks for the traveling prayers. We are joining others in praying for the WISSMANNS as they have a unique opportunity to witness and minister to others, who may not encounter JESUS in any other way.(check out their website from our link on the right)

May GODs BLESSING go with each of you

Along with the HUGS from THE LONGS-ON THE ROAD: JOHN AND JUDY

and BIG meows from the TRAVELING CATS (Bamm-Bamm is eyeing this computer,, thinking he may try his paws on here again)

BOO!!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Yes, it is just us scary travelers from the Endeavor;

Judy and John and the other NOMADS at Horizon finished up the project period there a week ago yesterday (Thurs. 10-23). The Endeavor crew stayed at the camp over the weekend, to assist the staff there with their annual bicycle ride. We did various duties with Judy helping in the kitchen, John did things like minor electrical fixes, filling pot holes with gravel all across the camp grounds.

On Monday we moved on over to Elk City Lake State Park, where you can find the Endeavor parked til around Dec.23rd., while John is working at Amazon.com (shift and duties are to be assigned on Saturday).. We are in good company here as there are around 150 of our fellow workampers from this past summer at Adventureland. The trees here are about in their prime colors. Our parking space is very nice and large. Pebbles likes it greatly (although their are reports of coyotes in the area)so she doesnt have her great freedom walks.

Amazon is to hire around 350 workampers for their Christmas Rush mailing period. Those that have been here since early Oct. say it is work and NOT a vacation job, but it will fund a good time latter. John will be working 4 10hours days (hopefully over nite 5p.m. til 3:30 a.m.

Judy is doing ok, but she is on the down side of her strong pain medicene (so she does have slight pains late in the day) She plans on getting back to her beading, since John will be away about 11 hrs per day.

We have heard that Bobby Williamson (our workamper that heart surgery back in AUG) is NOT doing so good. Reports are that he has had 3 more trips to the Hospital since then. PLEASE Pray for him. Dr.J. Larry Jackson and wife Kay are traveling this week to their Winter home in Destin Fla. so we are praying for traveling mercies for them. ALSO we pray that GODS WILL we be done in the Upcoming election on Tues and that our elected leaders will have wisdom.

I know that our new picture isn't large but we are working on fixing that.

May GOD BLESSINGS
along with HUGS from THE LONGS go with each of you

WINDINGDOWN OUR NOMAD PROJECT

GREETINGS from the ENDEAVOR :

We had a very busy work week !

Here John is removing a shelf in the RENEWAL LODGE in preparation for the painting team to attack the room. This was actually done in the 1st week we were here at HCRC.

We even found some time on Saturday Evening to Burn some 'DOGS'

This is the NOMAD team here at HORIZON CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER near Arkansas City, Kansas. from left to right the couples are (Husband in front and wife in back, you know that ole saying "behind every man is a good woman" we are truely finding that out!) They are the Ned and Charlene Vogel; Weldon and Linda Hyde; Gary and Avis Norton; John and Judy Long; Jim and Delores Funk; Bub and Midge Morris.

The Pool House took great shape only had one full sheet to go, plus the corner and ridge corners.

The team built some bicycle racks and shelving for gear, Painting crew refinished some doors and benches. One of the lodges had a minor kitchen remodel with the addiction of a cooking stove and oven and moving around of the built in sink and counter.

On Friday the Team traveled down to PONCA CITY, OK. We toured the Marlin mansion , the 1st person to strike oil in OK and the founder of Conaco Oil Co. It was really a castle.
Besides the bedroom suites for each resident: Mr and Mrs. Marlin and their 2 adopted children, there was 15 guest bedroom suites.huge ballroom, a hunting gathering room, a sitting room, and a hall way that was at least 1 1/2 football fields long,

with the ceiling being at least 15feet high, There was some very interesting paintings on the ceiling there. The painting was on the inlaid wood.

We then went to

Here the NOMADS are going though the Cafeteria Line and getting their H U G H portions of Bar-B- Que Brisket and Ribs. We all would Highly recommend a stop here if you are in the area.

After lunch we went out to KAW LAKE DAMM and looked at the possible campsites and watched the river flowing out the power house, very neat.

After that we stopped at the

We found this museum to be very interesting and intriging , Judy and John probably spent hrs here.
Then on Sunday after church we went over to Coffeyville (about 85 miles East) to check out for ourselves what to expect next week when we move over there to work for AMAZON.COM. We still don't have all of the details worked out so please make this OUR#1 prayer request today.

With GODS Blessings and OUR HUGS
We are THE LONGS-ON THE ROAD. Judy and John and their TRAVELING CATS.

HORIZON CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER -DAY 1 -WEEK2

Good Evening:

Today we had a cool Drizzle ALL DAY LONG !

Judy and Delores worked on stripping some old doors and preparing them to be re varnished. Avis worked on making the bunkbeds tighter (so they wouldn't wiggle)in the LEADERSHIP LODGE. Midge,Charlene, and Weldon were repairing various park benches.
John helped Gary, Jim, and Ken with the new POOL HOUSE (mechanical room)they finished the framing. Then in the afternoon while the other guys worked on attaching the metal to the frame, John started getting the electrical fixtures in place and laid out the wiring. most of today's projects were done in the shop area, as will tomorrows as we are expecting 100% rain tomorrow.

There are 2 other groups using the beautiful facilities this week, and some are from Canada, in keeping with their CANADA DAY (THANKSGIVING)we were served a Thanksgiving style Dinner tonight.

Judy is continuing to maintain a good health day. Rich reported that he is to undergo minor surgery on the 22nd. He is also scheduled to make a move to a new apartment at the end of the month.

We also heard that our friends Kurt and Terri Jo and their extended families NEED our prayers as they have experienced 4 members whose time on earth was terminated within in the last 10 days. NOT All in 1 single family. BUT 1 extended family!
Since we have prayer on our thoughts please continue praying for Our Countries Leaders, Military, and for those in the Assisted Living Homes. Also remember those that we have been praying for.

May GODS Grace and Blessings go with each of YOU

HORIZON CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER -WEEK 1 UNDER OUR BELTS!!!!

Howdy you'all:

The NOMAD TEAM has accomplished a lot this past week; Those working on the Pool House (maintenance shed) have the old one demolished and the frame work for the new one all in place. The team working on what I said was the Fireside Lodge is actually the RENEWAL Lodge. The TEAM there has 4 out of 8 sleeping rooms repainted, floors vacuumed and shampooed, furniture reset (NEW DESKS assembled and placed in room). Minor electrical and plumbing repairs made, and new pictures were hung on the walls. There still are 4 rooms to do but have to wait til 3rd week, as that facility is in use by a group this week.

JUDY'S health did EXCEPTIONALLY WELL this week she worked like a little beaver all week til lunch time on Thursday. She took some medicine at lunch time and it knocked her out, so she rested all afternoon, BUT is back to being active again today.

On Wednesday Night, MEXICAN TRAIN (Dominoes) and PEGS AND JOKERS (Cards and board) were enjoyed by the NOMADS. Then on Thursday night the Team 'supper' was from a bonfire, which heated up Brats, Hot Dogs, and Smoke Sausages. while we watched one of GODS beautiful Sunsets here SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS.

Today was an off day, so the team toured some local things in ARK. City; we went to the CHEROKEE STRIP LAND RUSH MUSEUM where we watched an excellent 45 minute movie about the land rush, we then toured the rest of the museum. IF YOU ARE EVER IN THIS AREA WE RECOMMEND IT.

We plan on attending St.Pauls U.M.C. in Ark. City this week followed by lunch at Sirloin Stockade.

Rich (Judy's son) is anticipating a move coming up at the end up this month, please pray that his attitude and behavioral problems allow this to happen,

Remember those that are continuing to recuperate from their respected surgeries this past few weeks. LARRY JACKSON, BOBBY WILLIAMSON, and SANDY REXRODE & her fellow Adventureland Workamper Donor.

We will be working here at HCRC at a different part of this lovely campus, while the Pool House continues to be finished up.

May Our LORD continue to BLESS Each of YOU.
and HUGS from THE LONG'S Judy and John.

SOMEONES BIRTHDAY- TODAY !!!!!

Greetings:

We arrived at Horizon Camp and Retreat Center near Arkansas, Kansas on Saturday afternoon, with out any major nor minor problems THANK YOU LORD !!!

The NOMAD TEAM consists of 5 couples and 2 single men for a total of 12 members.
Ned and Charlene Vogel from Warsaw, Indiana
Jim and Delores Funk from Paola, Kansas
Bub and Midge Morris from Waukesha, Wisconsin
Gary and Avis Norton from Hayes, South Dakota
John and Judy Long from Livingston, Texas/IOWA
Weldon Hyde from Fredonia, Kansas
Ken ???? from Kansas

The HORIZON CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER Directors are:
Neal and Katie

We have a large "wish list" of projects they would like to see accomplished. Today (Monday) we divided into 2 groups one demolished the existing pool shed, and put in the forms for the new base for the new pool shed. John was on this team in the A.M. Judy was on the 2nd team which worked in Fireside Lodge : washing the paneled walls and wiping down then painting drywall and concrete block walls. John joined the painting crew in the P.M. So that he could be where?? Up on a ladder smearing paint on the walls with a roller of course. Judy cleaned walls and caulked holes that needed minor repairs.

Judys health continues to be on the positive side, she made it through the day with out much pain or complaints. THANK YOU LORD!!

Judy celebrated her 63rd Birthday today while her Sister DIANN also had a major birthday, congratulations ladies and may both of you have many more.

We did have a minor/ major problem arise today; the waste water holding tanks aboard the ENDEAVOR, are suppose to last 5 to 7 days, well just after 3 days, since last emptying, we had a need to move the RV, so that we could get the holding tanks emptied again.

We ask that you continue to remember Judy in your prayers along with the following prayer and praises : Bobby Williamson who had major heart surgery in St. Louis and is continuing to recuperate in Missouri, also remember Dr. Larry Jackson recuperating from prostrate surgery also in Missouri, We heard today that he had a resent test result very favorable!! Thank You JESUS. While we were working at Adventureland there was a Lady who needed a Kidney transplant, the LORD provided one through a fellow Adventureland Workamper who just happened to be a perfect match. Both were doing extremely well on Friday when we left, THANK YOU GOD, they need to continue recuperating in the Des Moines area over the winter. We also ask for prayers for our friends John and Ruth Christison, as they set up their NEW home in West Burlington, we wish them well. Also please pray for the Hinschberger family in the resent loss of the 3 month old little fellow. Be with that family DEAR LORD.

The Traveling Cats are appreciating the rural life again instead of that busy days and nights in that city campground at Altoona.

We are going to try real hard to do a daily update while we are here at HCRC for the next 3 weeks.

May GOD BLESSINGS and HUGS from the LONGS-on the road, go out to each of you.

HEY JUST A FUN TEST !!!!!!

FIND THE 30 BOOKS IN THE BIBLE

There are 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them? This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu. Keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that really easy to spot. That’s a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new sales record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, the books are all right there in plain view hidden from sight. Those able to find all of them will hear lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind that punctuation and spacers in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember there is no need for a mad exodus, there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in the paragraph waiting to be found.

Good Afternoon all: Was working here on the ENDEAVOR preparing for our up coming departure for Kansas the 1st of Oct. We came across this little fun quiz. Thought we would pass it on for you to enjoy.... will send the answer upon request he-he-he

WE REALLY ARE STILL ALIVE !!!!!!l LOL

Greetings:
We know that we haven't been very faithful in posting updates on life in the Endeavor, Things during late July really got busy, After we returned Samantha too Davenport, Adventureland schedule increased as the season really blossomed out, so John was working a lot of hours most days. Judy continued to visit her Doctors here in Des Moines an at this time it appears we finally have a handle on things. (THANK YOU GOD and Dr. Hines)

The supper in Belle Plaine on the 15th was a great opportunity for us to share with the group about our NOMAD travels and work experiences. They contributed over $200. to the General NOMAD account (beginning this year NOMADS will be mostly self funding)

Then Judy and John traveled back to Belle Plaine to assist Christ United Methodist Church group serve pie and deserts to the RAGBRAI riders as they rode down through town.

We then went to Independence to bring Rich back to Des Moines for 3 days to attend the IOWA STATE FAIR (as a birthday present for him) he went on Sunday afternoon/evening with his cousin Kiesha, then Rich,Judy, and John went back on Monday. On our return trip to Independence,we stopped at Newton, to visit the IOWA SPEEDWAY.

Also during early August we lost the use of our Computer again due too keys becoming damaged. Dell sent a repairman out to get it running again.
John went to Davenport for 2 days to celebrate Davi's 11th birthday. The kids and John had lunch then went too a movie and then went to Godfathers for Pizza. John visit with relatives Monday nite and Tuesday as Adventureland had gone to weekends only
While we have been here at Adventureland Judy has been attending a Bible Study here in the campground and has thoughly enjoyed it.

John has been either the ride operator or assistant on most of the rides except for the Tilt-a-wheel, Infant Ocean (kiddies boat), The Flinger, The A Train, and Lady Luck. So he has a lot of experince if it is Gods will that we return next summer.

We have made our requests for NOMAD assignment after the 1st of the year, hopefully we get our 1st choices again---hehehe. as that would help with the travel expenses.
We will be leaving here on Sept. 29th headed to Arkansas City, Kansas for our next NOMAD project at an UM camp and retreat center (more to follow later). Then we plan on taking 3 weeks and going to Livingston so we will be there to vote and take care of the registrations on the Motorhome and Toyota.

As we close we ask that each of you remember our Servicemen, our Country leaders, and our fellow NOMADS as they are traveling soon to their next projects, Also please excerize your right to vote and do it prayfully.

Johns mentor Dr.J.Larry Jackson is recuperating for a sucessful surgery last week in St. Louis (THANK YOU GOD) also be with Pat (the recent widow) of one of our fellow workampers here at Adventureland as she deals with his recent passing following surgery.

MAY GODS BLESSING BE WITH EACH OF YOU

JULY UPDATE 2

Greetings to One and All:

Judy and I were really glad to be able to share with those in attendance last Tuesday (7/15) at the spaghetti supper fund raiser for the missions committee of Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine. There were around 40 in attendance. We shared some of our Adventures and Mis-Adventures of our NOMADS projects during the past 17 months through a computer picture show,
Some of the proceeds were donated to the NOMADS projects fund.

Judy had another spinal block put in today and medication switched again.

We are planning on being back in Belle Plaine in the morning (Thurs 7/23) to assist the CUMC of Belle Plaine lunch stand for the RAGBRI coming through there.

We still have not heard any thing from Rainbow End for this fall. So we are seeking GODS will in what we are too do this fall and winter. Please join us in prayer concerning this.

Remember that John is able to arrange for Adventureland Park Tickets at 19.50 instead of the $31 daily rate if you let him know at least 24hrs before arrival (we would love to visit with each of you while in Altoona). This week John is the Saw Mill Splash operator through Sunday evening.

MAY GODS BLESSINGS be with each of you!

THE ENDEAVORS BIG BANG REPORT

Happy 4th (2 days late) everyone!

The mid-summer holiday weekend is almost over and Judy spent Thursday with Andy partaking in the festivities in Belle Plaine , They would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the following for making their day go so smoothly: GRIEDERS SERVICE for the great parade viewing spot. Kurt and Terri for all of their hospitality and help. And Judy's sister DIANE for surprising us and spending the afternoon in the park with them. Then on Saturday Judy traveled to Independence and spent the day with her son Rich at his new Apartment. She says it was really nice and the staff there was very accommodating.

John spent the entire week-end at Adventureland from opening til park closing Thursday, Friday,Saturday operating or assisting on TORNADO (which celebrated its 30th birthday of the 4th), the UNDERGROUND, THE FALLING STAR. Then after 3 pm he was found at The North End of the SKY CHAIRS assisting riders to unload. Next week July 7- 13 he can be found back down on the RAGING RIVER (hopefully on the unloading side.)

Again we are asking for Prayers for guidance in the matters of our fall travel plans and destinations as things are not yet all confirmed. We hope to get to attend the NOMADS Reunion at Shawnee, OK. the last full week of Sept. then our FALL NOMADS assignment at Arkansas City, Ks. (we still need a leadership couple, volunteers are needed everywhere as we have a greater demand and a lot fewer volunteers, because of the Traveling expenses)
We still haven't heard from the ESCAPEES CARE CENTER at RAINBOWS END in Livingston, TX. about our volunteering there from last week of Oct through Christmas Day.

Samantha is returning to Davenport on the 15th of July and Davi and Nathan will come spend a week with us at that time.

We hope that everyones summer is moving along smoothly and enjoyably. We are especially keeping our friend Ruth in our Prayers as she continues from her recent minor surgery. And that things continue to get better for them.

Love and GOD BLESSINGS to ALL from

at LONG last -a report from the Endeavor

GREETINGS ONE AND ALL

As you can see we finally have gotten the computer repaired, all it took was a phone call to Dell and they said that the damaged key board was replaceable under our warranty, so one should never be afraid to ask, all they can do is say NO.

John is getting about 35 hrs a week in at ADVENTURELAND as a rides operator or an assistant. During the summer so far he has been on all of the rides, working except for 9, but should be on them before summers end.

Judy has been doing verily well with her pain,, but has been diagnosed with Krones Disease , which is causing her a lot of discomfort and not knowing when it is going to be active.
The Traveling Cats are adjusting very nicely to the Iowa climate, although they are NOT happy about all of the Thunder and Lighting storms.(We don't care for them neither.)

Maybe many of you missed where John's daughter Samantha has joined us here in Altoona for a brief time and is also working at ADVENTURELAND.. she can be found around the RALLY ROUND or CHICKEN SHACK. She wasn't to thrilled about working until she received her 1st paycheck yesterday. Now she is already figuring out how many clothes choices she can make with HER OWN money.

As our plans for the fall and winter are NOT finalized yet at this time. We are tentatively scheduled for a NOMADS project in Kansas around the 1st week of OCT. but it may get canceled as there isn't any one signed up yet as a leader. NOMADS have had to cancel quite a few projects for this summer and fall for the lack of volunteers. As we all know the cost of traveling has almost gotten prohibited, and many have chosen to just travel close to home or close to their travel destinations. We have not heard yet if our offer of Volunteering at the ESCAPESS CARE CENTER in LIVINGSTON has been excepted, hope to find out in the next week or 2, so that maybe we could pick-up a couple more projects if that is where GOD is wanting us too do. As of now we plan on taking NOMAD assignments in the RIO GRANDE VALLEY again the first 3 months of 2009.

ON TUESDAY JULY 15TH, 2008. JUDY and JOHN will be sharing photos and stories of their NOMADS projects , This will be a fund riser for THE MISSIONS of CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. Belle Plaine. The presentation will follow a supper held at BELLE PLAINE COMMUNITY CENTER, details will follow.

Please keep all of those that were affected by the various storm disasters, and those responding to aid them, in your prayers and thoughts.

May GOD continue to BLESS and guide each of you.

The Longs-Judy, John and the Traveling Cats +1

LATEST NEWS FROM THE ENDEAVOR

Hi all:

Just a short post to let you know that things here in Iowa are going along verily well. But we sure wish that spring would hurry up and get here !!!! John is moving around the rides area at adventureland, he was the ride operator of the 'UNDERGROUND', and this week he is scheduled to be the operator of the 'FRANTIC FREEWAY' (the bumper cars).

Judy's health is maintaining stability, since the Dr. at the pain clinic here in Des Moines, gave her a spinal block 2 weeks ago and changed her daily meds. She has progressed so well that she is attempting to do some volunteer work up at CAMP SUNNYSIDE, in Akeney. We will let you know later how this is going and what type of duties she is doing.
Johns day off is scheduled to be Sundays as of now, so last weekend we went to Graveyards near Belle Plaine to place memorials on the graves of Danny (Judy's 1st husband)and her Mom's and Dad's then we went up to Independence to visit with Rich, then unto Davenport to get Johns kids and treated them to Pizza at CHUCKIE CHEESES. We left Davenport around 8p.m.and ran into severe weather just past the Williamsburg Outlet Mall, we pulled into the rest area near the Victor exit, we traveled about 6 miles and was listening to WHO radio. They were issuing Tornadoes warning for that section of the Interstate 80 for those in cars to take immediate cover. We just drove on stopping only when the water sheet was so dense we couldn't see. We got back into Altoona around 11 p.m

We are really thankful for all of our friends and family that have been praying for us. We ask that you all remember all the victims of the terrible storm in Northern Iowa over the weekend.

May God continue to bless and guide each one of you.

Love and Hugs to All from THE LONGS-ON THE ROAD; JUDY, JOHN and THE TRAVELING CATS.

Pebbles decided that she needed to see if she could get a message on here and spilled the ice tea'

I will try a picture from files now

this was so cute and a rare time that they were like this
Well thank GOD it appears that everything is back to NORMAL
if there is a normal for us. lol
Work is going OK next 3 working days John will be assisting on the LOG FLUME.

Judy went to a pain specialist and is on new meds and received a spinal blocker shot and seams to be helping ( a side benefit is that it has curbed her appetite , she thinks she may loose some weight,)

Well may our GRACIOUS GOD continue to BLESS and KEEP you all safe til next time.

END OF WEEK #1 OF ADVENTURELAND

GREETINGS: We have settled in, here at Altoona . We are in the ADVENTURELAND CAMPGROUND space # z22. John worked this week-end and is scheduled to work the next 2 week-ends as an assistant on the RAGING RIVER raft ride. His assignment is to assist passengers off of the raft at the end of their journey. BRRRRRRRR !!!!! was it ever cold out there this week-end. Felt like low 30's most of the day.

NOW FOR A FEW MORE PICTURES OF ADVENTURES FROM " THE LONGS' - ON THE ROAD "

This was the power plant along highway 100.

TENKILLER lake was across the highway for the CIRCLE M Boys ranch at Gore, OK. The lake level was extremely high while we were there, due to heavy rain.

So they were expelling the lake water through the power plant, creating a powerful mist and very turbulent water.

Flooding the peaceful trout stream that was downstream from the power plant. They told us that it was a favorite area to catch both RAINBOW AND BROWN TROUT.

While we were at the Boys Ranch at Gore, one of the mares had this colt . The ranch had over 60 head of horses that they used to teach the boys responsibility, riding , and work uses. THE BOYS RANCH HOLDS A RODEO AROUND THE MIDDLE OF OCTOBER which is one of their major fund risers. John suggested that they name the colt ' NOMAD' since he was born while we were there. lol'

Now that I have almost 5 days off , I should be able to ADD other pictures for our travels. Until then may GOD BLESSINGS be with each of you.

THE LONGS-JUDY,JOHN AND THE TRAVELING CATS.
