Hi All;;
After all the responses and wrong guesses we felt like we should let you all in on the correct responses : Of Course the ONE TRUE ANSWER to all of today troubles is Our LORD AND SAVIOUR .

The answer to where we went is Livingston, Tx where it was around 72- 85 most of the time

The why should be obvious to ALL you IOWANS We are not able to camp in freezing weather and had to thaw out our water system.

And on Dec !4th ,, we were ::::SILLY US , WE WERE BACK IN IOWA (WITH OUT THE motor home or the cats,,,,

We did enjoy our stay with our many friends and family that allowed us to stay.... We had quite a few enjoyable visits and meals with many of you.

Judy spent the majority of the time in the Belle Plaine area while John spent his in the Quad Cities... John returned to Cedar Rapids on Monday after the last great ICE and SNOW storm to join Judy at her Sister Diane's for Christmas Day then visited Andy briefly in I.C.

We left CR at 5:40 am Wednesday the 26th and arrived in Livingston at 4:15 am the 27th

The cats seamed to have really missed us while we gone...

We are going to be here at Rainbows End until the 3rd of Jan , when we will begin our journey down to the very south of Texas (Rio Grande City) to begin a 3 week NOMAD project followed by another 3 weeks at Pharr,Tex well someone has to go be there and we will be thinking of you IOWANS.

WE HAVE SURVIVED-this horrible IOWA weather

Greetings to all :

This has been a very interesting week for us. We really did get a lot accomplished as Judy had her teeth checked and cleaned (good news , no other work was needed!!) Judy also got down to Iowa City U. of I. hospitals to have eyes checked, she got a new prescription for new glasses and was also told that she has cataracts forming and they will be rechecked in May, when we are back in Iowa.

We have seen all the immediate family and have decided that our blood is not thick enough for this cold weather... so we are heading south, as soon as we are cleared by our Dr. in Marengo on Wednesday. We will just have early Christmas with the kids and then save them a bunch of time over the summer.

We ask that you all pray for the Hinschberger family with the lost of Terri Jo's grandfather, service are Wednesday the 5th. also pray for good traveling weather as we travel back to Texas.

WE ARE TERRIBLY SORRY WE WEREN'T ABLE TO GET AROUND TO VISIT AND SEE EACH OF YOU!!! we owe you an extra hug when we catch you this summer. We will be returning to the Des Moines area around the 21st of April, as John will be working for ADVENTURELAND PARK through the end of SEPT.

May GODS BLESSING be given to each of you and THE LONGS on the road are wishing each of you MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR

BRRRRRR---Baby its' cold outside

Hi All:

We are now 'official' Texans have Drivers Licenses and Voter Registration applied for and awaiting them to arrive in the mail. We left on Wednesday morning from Livingston and stopped at "Camp Wal-mart "--Atlanta, Tex. We then stopped at Ft.Smith, Ark. for our Thanksgiving Buffet at Golden Corral very ummmy ,but the crowd was tremendous. Then we stopped just inside the Mo.- Ark. line at a neat RV camp ground and river float company ( name to follow in a future post) We then drove into Iowa just before dark and stopped at Osceola for the night. On Saturday we surprised Rich (Judy's son) by knocking on his door when he thought we were still in Texas. Rich joined us for our journey unto Marengo where we have set up our Iowa base until Dec.31st UNLESS BAD WEATHER OR TALK OF BAD WEATHER FORCES US TO HEAD SOUTH.
Judy has Dr's appointments scheduled ,, Dentist on Monday at Belle Plaine. Eye Doctor in Iowa City on Wednesday. Then our family Dr. in Marengo the following Wednesday... Please pray that these all go well and the problems answered will be what she needs to have a better day each day.

We were in our home church at Belle Plaine for the early worship hour and was pleasantly delighted too be a part of a Large congregation for worship. We visit briefly with a few of our friends and exchanged several hugs, smiles and warm greetings.

I could go on and on about our trip so far but it is cold and thinking I will craw into our warm bed.

here our a couple of Picture of us working Selma.

HERE WE ARE AT "HOME"---TEXAS THAT IS

Howdy partners:

Well we have finally made it to our Texas address, and Rainbow drive in the Escapes RV park is really really nice. Today we tried to be come "legal" Texans but ran into a snare,,, seams that the RV dealership in Orlando didn't send along the proper paperwork to get the Endeavor registered with. So we are an overnight letter from them to Tax office with ALL the right information. Then we go get our TEXAS drivers licenses. We hope to have this all wrapped up by 1p.m. so we can get on the road to IOWA for the Holidays.. Hopefully we can be in southern Iowa by Friday afternoon.!!!!please pray for good driving conditions for us as we travel and the month + that we will be in IOWA..

The work at Selma finished up last Thursday, as everything was finished up as was planned... The contacts were really well pleased with all of the hard work and labors of our whole team.

Then we headed for Sulphur, La. to visit Johns' brother Don. We spent Friday night near Picayune, Ms.. still lots of evidence of 'KATRINA' around. Then Saturday we had to detour off of I-10 because of the gas line explosion near the interstate. Se we chose to go past SAGER-BROWN AND UMCOR DEPOT at Baldwin, La... terrible roads -bad choice ..then when we arrived in Sulphur it was dark and rainy so we couldn't find our way around too well. So we decided to find a camp ground,,HIDDEN PONDS (4 paw prints on the TRAVELING CATS rating chart) we finally visit with Don on Sunday morning during the drizzling rain. Finally around 11:30 a.m. we departed on the trip from . NO MORE TOURING IN LA ON I-10 at least.

We are really anxious to touch IOWA soil again so please keep the weather descent there for our stay.. we have not finalized all of our plans at this time for our days there, but we hope we can at least see all of you for a short time to share stories and pictures with you and catch up on ALL of your news!!!

May you all have a THANKFUL HOLIDAY and please drive safely and don't overeat .

May Gods Great Blessings Continue to Find each and everyone of You.

WORK IN SELMA WRAPPING UP TOO QUICKLY

GREETINGS:

The painting is continuing along fine. Last week we finished the dining room in one of the cottages ,along with getting a good start on a bedroom there. Over in the other cottage the ceilings are all done in 2 bedrooms and the bathroom, ceiling man JOHN rolled all the ceilings. Judy spent most of her week running a power sander in the built-in closets and drawers. Then she primed them and started putting the final coats on..

Gary W. and Roger W. finished laying out and painting a LABYRINTH on an old outdoor basketball court. They also repaired the handicap ramps and railings going into the Chapel and the cottages.

ON Friday the GROUP toured the Voting rights museum and the Civil war and slavery museum,, we found them very well done. Then we had lunch at 1 of the BEST 100 EATING PLACES IN ALABAMA. We also toured the local cemetery where they had quite a few of unknown soldiers graves (BOTH SIDES). Also there is a former Vice President buried here. Along with several Confederate Officers.

Saturday, found us taking a sleep-in day (well deserved) then Judy and I traveled to Montgomery and got a new cell phone battery , maybe now we won't be dropping or missing our calls, as often. On the way back to Selma we stopped at the Interpret Center at the site of 'THE TENT CITY', which was established after the Selma to Montgomery March, because the land lords forced some of the black share croppers and workers who had shown support towards the marchers, off of their land. WE FOUND THIS TO BE THE BEST OVERALL ACCOUNT OF WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE,DURING AND AFTER the MARCH.

As of now our plans call for us to go to Livingston, Tx and get "official" and on the way stopping by John's brother, Don, in Sulphur, La. for the over night. Then after all the legal matters are taken care of, in Texas, we are probably headed to Iowa for an extended Winter Holidays. plans are still in the formation process, as soon as they are semi set I'll post them.

The TRAVELING CATS are adjusting really well to the motorhome, except Pebbles thinks she needs to spend lots of time outside alone so she can snoop around. The pecans are beginning to really drop and we have been invited to help ourselves too all we want.... sounds like a lot of shelling ahead for someone and it isn't John. LOL

We wish GODS blessings and guidance to each and everyone of you!!!!!

SELMA-WEEK 1 DOWN: 2 TO GO

Greetings from the SOUTHLAND:

We all (Judy, myself and the TRAVELING CATS ) are all adjusting to Motorhome life really good. We just can't locate everything yet, as we need it. The projects here at the Methodist Children's home are progressing along smoothly. We are sanding, then priming interior walls in 2 of the cottages. We have already completed a foyer, huge living room, and have a bedroom and bath sanded and primed along with a dining room.

We had Church services today along with the Children in their on campus Chapel, the campus setting is just beautiful. There are 2 dozen buildings in the complex surround with and rustic iron fence. The grounds have numerous types of trees, but best of all, are the PECANS (which are just falling, and we fill our pockets as we cross the grounds.

On Friday the NOMADS toured some of the historic churches and museums here in Selma, Judy and I are going to do more later today of the things that interest us most. On Saturday we went to an old grist mill for a barn raising and bluegrass festival.. was ok but after the ones we were at in Virginia and North Carolina, it just didn't compare.

It looks like that we may cancel the Moss Point stop and head back to IOWA after we get our legal work finished in TEXAS, during Thanksgiving weekend... STAY TUNED FOR MORE LATER

GODS BLESSINGS THE LONGS-ON THE ROAD AND THEIR TRAVELING CATS.

SELMA ALABAMA-1ST WEEK

Greetings from Selma to y'all:

With GODS guidance and Judy's patience we were able to get the Endeavor filled with all of our STUFF out of the 5er before 6 p.m. Friday night, at which time the gates closed at Giant Recreation World. The fellows at G.R.W. were very easy for us to work with.

While we were headed to the Azalea Park U.M.C., to gather up our belongings there, Judy hit an obstacle in the roadway and damaged the right front tire. Which meant that after we got the Endeavor (M.H.) packed, we spent the night at the church. I got up Saturday morning and figured out how to get the wheel off, so I could get the spare on no easy task wheel locks. I only had to go 2 blocks to PEP BOYS TIRES, was able to get right in and even had A tire in the size and type that we needed.(THANK YOU GOD for another answered prayer.)

We finally got over to the BRUNDIGES before Noon,, gathered up our personal belongings and THE TRAVELING CATS said our final thank yous and so longs and were off for Selma.

We went as far as Gainesville and stopped at CAMP WALLY WORLD for the night,, which meant that we still had 6 driving hours ahead of us on Sunday. We arrived at Selma just in time to join the NOMAD TEAM for the orientation meeting for the work projects here.

The team consists of 4 couples:
Gary and Jane Byington from Wisconsin

Gary and Linda Willaims from Missouri

Rodger and Sandy W. from Alabama

John and Judy Long from Iowa (since Feb. 23, 07

was supposed to be 2 other couples with us, but due to health reasons are unable to be here. (PLEASE PRAY for their respected heath concerns along with us.)

Our main project will be Painting Cottages here at UNITED METHODIST CHILDREN'S HOME SELMA CAMPUS they haven't been freshened up for quite awhile, LOL John is doing the HIGH ceilings while Judy is getting the lower stuff just above the floors.

again we would like to thank you all for your continued prayers and messages of encouragement that we receive, especially that last month of difficulties that we had.I had even considered changing my name to either 'PAUL' or 'JOB' for the trails and afflictions that we were going though (hee-hee)

May our GREAT GOD, grant all of you the wonderful blessings that we receive daily from HIM.

Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles
Judy and John say have a safe Halloween!

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!!!!

Hi Gang:
The work here at Azalea Park U.M.C. has come to conclusion for the Longs' as it is time to move on to our next NOMAD assignment at The U.M. Children's Home at Selma, Ala. beginning on Monday the 29Th.

While here we accomplished some of the requested task they had for us (in between making arrangements for our "new" traveling home). Some of the things accomplished were the fellowship hall stage front, stripped and re-stained and varnished (Judy). A wooden wall -2 sides painted (Judy). The exterior hall ceiling panels secured (John) and repainted (Judy and John). 4 Handicap Parking Signs Installed (post holes manually dug, post inserted and cemented, and signs attached 6' above ground) John

John also consulted with the Building maintenance committee about the lighting problems in the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall. (recommended that they get an professional electrician in)

We enjoyed the Church folk tremendously !!!!!!! The hospitality of the BRUNDAGES (Buford and Fay)
was very pleasing, we have 2 new life long friends, and Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm loved them also.

Uncle Paul and Hildred were a treat to visit with and discuss the family happenings of long ago and present.

Judy says it is time to get going as John is getting to know his way around Orlando and vicinity to WELL.

Sunday after church and fellowship dinner, JUDY finally got to see the ATLANTIC OCEAN, we went over to Cocoa Beach and then up to the KENNEDY SPACE STATION.

PLEASE PRAY for us as we learn to travel in the new motor home and for safe traveling, also for the work to be done while in Selma.

I almost forgot that I had promised you a list of our WINTER/SPRING 2008 TRAVELS:

ORLANDO--CONTINUED

Good evening to all:

Week one here at Orlando has turned out to be one which we will NOT soon forget!!! As we were trying to get here, all the traffic accidents. Then the encounter at Azalea Park U.M.C., with the walkway overhang,,,doing roughly $10,000 damage to the 5er and maybe as long as 8 weeks to finish repairs. John finally got the 5er to the repair shop about 15 miles from the church. Judy went and looked for a possible replacement and found one to her liking. The LORD worked out all the snags so that we should be able to take procession next week , which will enable us to keep our scheduled stop for NOMADS at Selma, Ala.

Judy has been working removing varnish from the stage front in the fellowship hall. While John has started to repair the plywood ceiling in the outside hallways. Today John also started the repair work to walkway overhang that caught the 5er.. John has also consulted with the maintenance man on the lighting outages in both the Sanctuary and the fellowship hall. John also advised the committee that they should try to get a professional steamer to clean the carpet on the fellowship stage, instead of replacing it. They did, and it turned out nice.

We have been staying with a family from the church who graciously has taken ALL of us in, BUFORD AND FAY BRUNDAGE (thank-you) WE want to thank all of you, for praying that this all could work out ok in a timely manner.

The Longs - On The Road new transportation is a 2001 Holiday Rambler, Endeavor, Blue and White on the outside and has many extras, which will make life on the road MUCH easier for ALL of the LONGS.

TROUBLE IN ORLANDO

GREETINGS FROM ORLANDO, FLA.

Coming down from Atlanta was quite a trip,,,we were held up in traffic 2 different times, because of semi-trucks accidents, we lost a total of over 2 hrs in the 1st tie-up, and then detoured off from the 2nd one, after about 45 mins of rolling parking lot. We went through Gainesville, Fla. then down US 441really slow through lots of constant commercial development.......lots of traffic control lights,,,,,UGH I FINALLY said enough and pulled into Camp Wal-Mart at Lady Lake, Fla; we got on the road then Sat. morning around 10 am and pulled into AZALEA PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH drive around 11a.m.

THEN JOHN WASN'T LOOKING CAREFULLY AND RAN THE TOP OF 5ER INTO THE WALKWAY CANOPY OVERHANG.....causing extensive damage to the front (bedroom area and closet) Insurance adjuster had me take it to a repair shop here... At this post time we haven't any idea how long or expensive this all will be,,,so please prayers are diffidently
requested at this time.

R & R NEAR ATLANTA,GA.

Happy October all:

I see where those darn cats thought they were getting a new comfortable ride. Well Judy's dream wasn't meant too be at this time. The cost was just too much for what we can handle right now, with making payments on her car also. So maybe (probably she says) summer of 2008 will see us in a Motorhome.

While staying over in Woodstock (near Atlanta) we visited the Corp of Engineers park VICTORIA LANDING. A definite 5 cats paws on the TRAVELINGS CATS rating scale.

We also visited with some former Belle Plainers JOHN AND JUDY CARTER (thank you for the lovely Sunday afternoon and evening, especially the ' POLKA FEAST' with your Sunday school class.

John also visited (via phone) with 2 of his long time good friends who live in the area.

Our plans are on Wednesday to take in a few of the tourist items: like the Capitol, Aquarium, Atlanta Speedway and maybe the Underground business district.

Then it is Orlando bound on Thursday, with an overnight at "Camp Wal-mart", while in transit. LOL. With an expected arrival at Azalea Park U.M.C. around 1 p.m.

Judy's uncle Paul is sure excited about us coming down to see them.

WE HAVEN'T HEARD MUCH FROM ANYONE LATELY SO WE DON'T HAVE ANY PARTICULAR PRAYER REQUEST AT THIS TIME EXCEPT REMEMBER OUR SERVICE PERSONNEL OVERSEAS, JUDY'S HEALTH, AND TRAVELING MERCIES FOR ALL THE NOMADS.

GODS BLESSINGS TOO ALL!!!!

MOM'S BIRTHDAY

High Gang:

Pebbles and I just wanted you all to know that today (Oct. 6Th) was Mom's (Judy's) birthday.

We got up early and left HINTON RURAL LIFE CENTER, after getting the 5er repaired on Friday (getting new landing legs { front jacks} and a new valve for the bathroom stool). We drove into Ga. to Woodstock, near Atlanta, where dad treated Mom to a visit at a CAMPING WORLD DEALERSHIP and store. Mom bought herself a birthday present, a 2001 Class A Motor home, so I guess Pebbles and I will have a NEW HOME,,, where we will be riding right along with the folks all the time. We think the exchange of homes will happen on Wednesday morning, before going onto Orlando, Fla We are going to visit Moms Uncle Paul and his new wife, Hilder. Dad and Mom are also going to be working at a DROP-IN NOMAD site at AZALEA PARK U.M.C. for around 10 working days.

The time spent at HINTON R.L.C. was fantastic, we had lovely weather for all of our catnaps. Dad said that the five houses that he and Mrs Traviss, added final electrical trim (outlets and switches) to, all passed final testing,,,,, HOOORAY Dad.

Us cats are looking forward to returning to the Mississippi Coast again the week after Thanksgiving. We will be at Caswell Springs UMC at Moss Point, Ms. for 3 weeks where the folks will be part of a team of Nomads working again on Katrina victims houses. This is after we spend 3 weeks in Ala. at Selma, United Methodist Children's Home. That happens the 3 weeks before Thanksgiving and after Azalea Park.

Mom was on the phone talking and I overheard her say that they have been approved for NOMADS project work in Southern Texas. the first 6 weeks of 2008, then 3 weeks off (to play Texas Tourist while traveling up to Oklahoma ). When in OK mom will get to visit with her close friend Connie at Claremore,OK. While near by at Tehlaquca (sp). Then,I think, we just might be headed for Iowa for the summer (stayed tuned , as I hear, I'll purrrr it on).

Well I think it is time for me to catch up on my sleep and eating so a big MEOWWWWWWWWW to one all. Bamm- Bamm and for Pebbles also. God Bless you all.

RC'd and MOONPIE'd

Greetings Ya'll :

Week #2 at HINTON RURAL LIFE CENTER here near Hayesville, N.C. is over and we are in our final week here. Fall has arrived with beautiful crisp mornings and nice COOL sleeping nights (between 52 and 65) overnights. The colors are fading and headed for their splenderful fall colors.

Judy has learned how to wire the outlets and place the trim around the fixtures, so she has joined John in getting this important job done on the 7 houses at WESLEY MEADOWS. The other members of the NOMADS TEAM has accomplished quite a bit of their assigned tasks also, THANKS TO GOD for providing pleasant working weather.

Jack and Arlene Fenn health has improved (thank you for the prayers for them) Arlene has been released by the Drs. to return to work, but Jack is still restricted as he recovers more from pneumonia, but he has joined in the devotions and some of the weekend activities.

Speaking of weekend activities Judy and I found a convenient store that had a special 2 RC's (ROYAL CROWNS COLA) and 2 MOON PIES for 2 Dollars,, since Judy has never had this favorite SOUTHERN tradition before we couldn't pass-up this bargain.LOL...WE HAVE NOW BECOME'D RC'D AND MOONPIE'D. We also visit the local used book store, ran by the friends of the library, and found more bargins.

Our stay here will be over on Friday of this week (if we get our RV part back) , the we are headed for Atlanta for a few days, Then on to Savana Ga., Where Judy hopes to FINALLY view the Atlantic Ocean beaches. We then plan on going to Fla. and visit Judy' Uncle Paul,, then find a Drop in project either at Eustiss Fla or Macon, Ga then get over to Selma, Ala. for another Nomad project .Then have a week off for Thanksgiving. Then 3 more weeks down on the Mississippi coast , this time at Moss Point.

We were able to get ALL of our 1st request for NOMADS assignments for spring 2008 so will be sharing those places and dates with you all in the next post as plans are finalized We start and Tex in Jan and finish in Oklahoma in late April or early May. Then properly on to Iowa for the summer.

Need run as it time to return to work now..

"BLUEGRASSafied"

Good evening everyone:
We finished our 1st week here at the HINTON RURAL CENTER near Hayesville, N.C.
where Judy has been doing a variety of work (which she highly enjoys); such as door hanging, insulating, painting, and trash patrol.

John has been using his electrical background to get the electrical trim (the switches, plug in sockets, cable connections, smoke detectors, and Telephone lines) closed in and face plates installed.

This work is part of HINTON's WESLEY MEADOWS PROJECT ( a mutual self-help housing community) where they are building 7 houses at the present time. Each house is set on at least a 1 acre lot. The families that get these houses have to put in at least 20 hrs a week on each other houses until all houses are completed. They receive payments according to their availability to pay.

John had met Steve Sloan (a musical adventurer) at the RV dealership and Steve helped get the hitch portion fixed and working properly (THANK YOU STEVE) He also sent me to a local machine shop (happens to be a local stock car racer, so he should know what he is doing. LOL ). Steve also told about the Bluegrass performance at the Campbell Folk Art School featuring the DISMEMBERED TENNESSEANS ( 6 members in the group) they were good but they only performed for an hour which was way to short for us.

While we were in Ga. (where the RV repair shop is) Judy found a resale shop where we got some used clothes to wear so we don't ruin our good clothes.

please continue praying for us that the 5er repairs go well, that our health remain manageable, and that the work here at HINTON goes as planned without too many obstacles.

GODS BLESSINGS ON ALL till next time 'the longs-on the road'

GOOD-BYE VIRGINIA; HELLO NORTH CAROLINA

Hi Friends, Family, and Dear Ones:

Well we finished up our 11weeks, over-all in Virginia, with our stay at WESTVIEW On

JAMES RETREAT AND CAMP. Where Judy and her fellow paint crews finished painting

BOTH the Womens and Mens Showers and restrooms... these walls now have a shinny new

coat of Light Green on the mens side, and a coat of Light Blue on the womens side.

The crew of the Gees and the Waters, finished their project of insulting and closing in the

restroom and showers to allow them to be used year round. THANK-YOU GUYS for a

job well done.

John and his 2 co-workers didn't quite get their project completed. Just lacking the new

overhang in the rear of the cabin where there is a new exterior wall and entry door with

2 new beams underneath for support. The new wall was stained. The back deck

reassembled.

NOW ABOUT OUR ADVENTURES IN LEAVING

I went to hitch the Ram up to the 5er and the latch didn't open causing the 5er to leave the

hitch and fall unto the bed sides, thus causing the front leveling leg and the street side to

get out wack and not allow it to function, So we had to stay the night Friday, after a quick

trip to Richmond and a VERY FRIENDLY RV DEALER. whom gave us an idea on

how to get around (temporally) our trouble.

We found North Carolina about 4hrs later and didn't experience any further troubles UNTIL

Sunday. As we were cruising along interstate 40 (after going past the Richard Petty Museum
and The Victory Junction Gang Camp on route 220) the Ram started running odd. Then after
Asheville going down a VERY Up and down and twist and turns MISSOURI WAS A

PIECE OF CAKE compared to these mountains, the connection to the electric brakes on

the trailer came away from the plug-in on the pick-up,,, meaning that I had NO BRAKES on

the trailer, making the pick-up do all the stopping ,,,THANK YOU GOD for seeing that we

just had rear brakes redone on Tuesday. THEN we get on the road leading to HINTON

RURAL CENTER and at the top of very last 100 yds is VERRRRRRRRY steep incline

and I misread a sign and made a stop. WELL the pick up refused to move any further. Judy

went for help, she was able to get around me in her car. The NOMADS men came to

assist me. Again THANK YOU GOD, as someone or something told me to try my 4 wheel

drive mode.... IT WORKED. So later this week we will get Ram checked out and parts

replaced on the 5er.

HELLO HINTON:

We have 6 NOMADS couples here this week although 1 couple is ill (please pray for

Jack and Arlene Fenn). Today Judy learned how to apply insulation along with 3 other

ladies. John started trimming out the electrical outlets and switches in another house. These

house (7 of them) are for low income families, who are also working 20 hrs a week on them.

PEBBLES AND BAMM-BAMM send their meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwws also.

PLEASE REMEMBER US IN YOUR PRAYER THAT THINGS WORK OUT ON

OUR REPAIR JOBS AND THE COST IS NOT ABSORBENT..

Judy and I are having fun but we sure miss having the fun times in IOWA also.

til next time GOD BLESSINGS AND GUIDANCE TOO ALL

beams underneath for support

PIECES OF THE PUZZLE

GREETINGS FROM VIRGINIA:

As we prepare for week 2 here at WESTVIEW ON THE JAMES,, things sound interesting... All 3 work groups should have their initial projects completed by Wednesday evening and a start on their final projects (to be determined yet! lol
Judy's new "TOY" hasn't arrived yet, snail mail is just way to slow, according too Judy; You see the problem was purchasing the car in Virginia, financing it in Iowa, and then registering it in Texas. IT CAN BE DONE as we are suppose to go into Waynesboro (65 miles one way), on Tuesday evening to receive it..JUDY can't wait..LOL.
Pebbles is in 7th Heaven , as she has gotten to have the roam of the camp ground. While Bamm-Bamm worries about her and paces inside all the time that she is out of doors.
The link for the campground here is www.westviewonthejames.com ,,,I am more impressed each day with the camp and its staff, the layout and functions of each area are terrific.

We went to Church this Morning at Corinth UMC near here, same place as last week,, they had dinner on the grounds (well actually we sat on chairs around tables. LOL) The pastors message was the missing puzzle pieces, and what was missing from CH CH, and those that are needed to complete the picture of the work of the church. As I listened, I couldn't help but think of all the different puzzle pieces that Judy and I have had to put together in the last 20 months. AND ONE OF THE MAIN ONES IS THE PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS OF Y'ALL. We do MISS YOU, and would like a note on here, email, snail mail even works, or a quick call as we can be reached at most times.

If things goes as planned I may have a group of photo's at the post.

well i better get off of here while i still have a signal to post with ... so please do take of your selves and each other and remember our service men around the world!!!

Judy,Bamm-bamm, pebbles, and I wish you all a safe and enjoyable LABORDAY

Mid-week westview week 1

HEY :: We are surviving the heat and humidity, Judy and the other 2 ladies on paint crew are over half done with the womens showers and restrooms.
John and the cabin repair crew have the demolition done and have actually started the rebuild,,, we found the back of cabin ( the north side) badly rotted and termites damaged . So we tore out all the damaged boards including the end support beams. These beams were back in place by 4 pm today. :)

The other couples name are Jim and Jan Gee, from Ohio; and Tom and Connie Mitro, from Virginia; Jim and Roxie Waters, from Texas, and team leaders Jack and Arlene Fenn, who are full time RVers orginally from the Chicago area. I better post this before I loose the signal:((((

Please pray for the Katrina victims as they are remembering the disaster of 2 yrs ago. also please pray that we have continue good weather to complete our task on time here at WESTVIEW ON THE JAMES.

Also we just found out that our next Nomad assignment in Hinton N.C. will include most of the team here now except the Mitros, which is very unusual for NOMADS teams work together for more that 1 project!!!!

WESTVIEW ON THE JAMES-DAY 1

Hi folks !!!

I saw that those pesky felines had their paws on here again. We can't seam too leave this out when we are gone :) Well we have begun our 1st 3 weeks of returning t0 NOMADS here at the Virginia United Methodist Camp - WESTVIEW ON THE JAMES. It is very peaceful and relaxing here. I would rate it very high on the overall camp structure of those that I have been apart of in the past.

Judy and I are a part of a Five couple NOMAD team doing at least 3 different projects here in the next 3 weeks (12 working days) Team leaders are Jack and Arlene Fenn ,full time RVers, Jim and Jan ; Jim and Roxie Waters, from Ft. Worth, Tx.; Tom and Connie ---- from here in Va.

I am rehaping a bunkhouse while Judy is on the paint crew redoing the restrooms in the resident camp area.

More details later, as we have limited access to air time for the computer:(

MOM HAS A NEW TOY !!!!!!!!

Meow meow meow (or howdy ya'all)!!!

Pebbles and I (Bam-Bam) have been really anxious to get our little paws on the computer, so that we could share some insights of OUR adventures during mom and dads travels.
While in Iowa, back in June, we got abandon at Belle Plaine's Countryside Vets, while the folks were out of our home on wheels (5er) for almost 2 weeks. We were even kept in cages, as if we were harden criminals LOL,
We then made the trip to Virgina very comfy stopping at campgrounds in Illinois (KOA Quad Cities, 1 paw print from the 'the longs-on the road' rating system) then the next night we stopped at SUGAR CREEK CAMP GROUNDS, near Crawfordsville, Ind.4 paw prints, then on the third night we stayed at THE OUTPOST CAMPGROUND near Morehead, Ky.5 paw prints.
While at MISTY MOUNTAIN CAMP RETREAT, near Crozet, Va.; mom and dad were workampers again. We didn't have any pesky cardinals as we did at Pine Mountain, in Ga.; so we found plenty of time to catch-up on our cat naps.
We heard Mom saying something to dad about going and getting a "toy", so was our ears really perked up to find out what was coming to join us. When they got home, phone calls were made to business professionals back in Belle Plaine , to assist in making Mom's new toy happen. It must of worked because Mom sure was in a great mood all day. We still haven't seen what this "toy " thing is yet but we think it might be something to get a better ride in. Mom says that she gets to have it in about a week when they (who ever they are) get things in order for her too take procession ... ..... we just over heard dad talking to some friends, telling them
that the new "toy" is a FIRE ENGINE RED 2003 TOYOTA MATRIX SPORT so maybe we will be getting a better ride from NOMAD assignment to NOMAD assignment if we behave:)
We better scatter and hide as the Ram just pulled into the drive here at WAYNESBORO NORTH 340 CAMPGROUND, 4 paw prints so til the next opportunity to dance on these ole keyboards its Pebbles and Bam-bam,'THE TRAVELING CATS saying meoeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew ( good night ya'all)

OUR TENTATIVE NOMADS SCHEDULE FOR REST OF 2007

Blessing to Ya'all:

We have finally put together a tentative NOMADS schedule for the rest of 2007, after much Prayer and consideration. We hope that our Christian friends will continue to be praying for us and our HOST SITES during this time, that we have traveling mercies, and the adequate capabilities too accomplish the needed tasks at these selected sites.

We begin August 27th - Sept. 13th at CAMP WESTVIEW ON THE JAMES, near Goochland, Va. ( Only around 45 miles from where we are WORKAMPING at now)

Then we move down to HINTON RURAL LIFE CENTER, Hayesville, N.C. for the period of Sept.17th - Oct.4th.

Oct. 8th-25th, we are tentatively scheduled at the METHODIST HOME FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH at Macon, Ga. or we could just do a 10 day drop in project if the scheduled planned project gets canceled for lack of workers. IF we do a drop-in project, it will follow a short trip into Fla., for a brief visit with Judy's Uncle Paul, who is advancing in age.

October 29th-November 15th, will find us in Selma, Ala., at the UNITED METHODIST CHILDREN HOME.

At this time we are scheduled to return to Moss Point , Ms . to work Nov.11th -Dec.13th, but we need to go to Livingston, Tex. and take care of establishing our resident requirements (get vehicle plates and registration for both the Ram Pick-up and the 5er as they expire on Judy's birthday in October {the 6th}) We will be visiting the ESCAPEES R.V. PARK where we have our mailing address at. Since we will already be in Texas, to
we are going to ask permission to switch to a project at MUNGER PLACE, UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Dallas.

Then we are planning on heading to Iowa, for the Holiday season (leaving the 5er and the Pick-up in Texas. We hope to purchase a used car by then, to make our trip in and to ease the burden and miles on the Ram. (tee-hee) This matter is also one of our main Prayer concerns right now.

WE HOPE THAT EACH OF YOU ARE DOING OK AND THAT GOD HAS BEEN AS KIND TO YA'ALL AS HE HAS TOO US.

REMEMBER if you want to just e-mail us our email address is jw_long2002 @yahoo.com you can either send it to us or individually to either of us.

ODDS AND ENDS!!!!!

Greetings from Misty Mt.:
We are still in Virginia's lovely mountains enjoying our stay----We are tentatively scheduled to stay through the last Wednesday of October, then on too Selma, Ala.
Where we once again have a 3 week NOMADS assignment at an United Methodist Children Home. We will then have the week of Thanksgiving off, then go to Moss Point, Mississippi;where Judy and I will become part of another NOMADS TEAM, for 3 more weeks, working on reconstruction of Hurricane Katrina victims homes ourselves.
We have no set plans at this time for after the 15th of Dec. leaving that open for GODS guidance's, but probably head for somewhere very very very WARM AND COMFORTABLE.
We are looking at future NOMADS ASSIGNMENTS and other possible WORKAMPER positions for spring and summer 08, maybe even somewhere close to IOWA, so we can enjoy visiting with family and friends.
This past week-end (8/12/07) we went up to the Visitor Center at HUMPBACK MOUNTAIN along the BLUERIDGE PARKWAY, to listen to some bluegrass music, the group performing was Pam Ward and the Grassy Ridge Band from West Virginia.. They are awesome and Pam's voice is like hearing an Angel singing.
Last Friday we found and ALDI'S about an hour away at Culpeper, VA so we replendished our staples and some of our favorite foods.
WE HOPE THAT THIS FINDS ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY HAVING A GREAT SUMMER AND RECEIVING SOME OF GODS' BLESSINGS LIKE WE ARE.

THE LONGS' ARE OK

HOWDY Y'ALL

Yes, we are doing OK , between all the work here at MISTY MOUNTAIN CAMP RESORT (here in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley)of Virginia, and the extra sight seeing opportunities we have allowed our selves to take advantage of. Plus fighting with the understanding of our new Laptop (vista, from Microsoft, meant John having too relearn computer operations.
Judy and John clean cabins and restrooms, while John relieves Sally and Wayne (the other workamper couple here) at the registration desk 2 afternoons a week. We are averaging 35-45 hours per week between the 2 of us.
We have taken in a major Bluegrass festival in Mineral,Va.The featured Artist of the evening was Dr.Ralph Stanly. We also went to an open house at P.Buckley Moss Art gallery then out to her home in Waynesboro, to meet the noted Water Color Artist, herself (even remembered to take a camera along so we had our picture taken with her.
Judy has begun taking up working with Beads and making some very interesting jewelery pieces (while locating beads we have visit Charlottesville, a really nice BIG little town (comparable to Iowa City, Iowa,, even with a huge University presence) We spent the past Thursday(our normal day off going to the local county fair then onto Richmond (the Capitol City) to find another bead shop and check out some other RVs. While there we also took a quick drive past of the Capitol Building. Since we seam too be making it a practice of at least going past every state capitol building that we are near.. Since the 1st of Feb. we have seen the Capitol Buildings of Missouri, Arkansas, Alabama,Mississippi, Kentucky,West Virginia, and now Virginia. Also we visit the Nations Capitol Building in D.C. while Davi and Nathan (John's Sons) were with us. We are really getting a great Geography lesson during our travels :)
Pebbles and Bam-Bam say hell-o and that as soon as possible they will fill you in on their holiday away from the camper during their Iowa visit ...i will write more later my self now that i have remastered this dang machine:)

New Laptop is now on

Yes we finally have a connection with the rest of the folks in computer world. We still have a few snags to work out in figuring out how to operate this thing as Dell sent the replacement machine in Vista instead of XP and believe me it has it own quirks. Another reason for the slow getting things done is we have taken on another Workamper assignment in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia , at MISTY MOUNTAIN CAMP RESORT, Greenwood, Va ( just 2 hrs outside of Washington D.C. ) ( and about 75 mins away from the Nascar Track in Richmond,Va.) . We brought my 2 boys ( Nathan and Davi ) with us to Va from Iowa. We spent 2 nights in transient at 2 very nice and in expensive campgrounds, 1 in Indiana just west Indianapolis about 35 mins,SUGAR CREEK CAMPGROUNDS , we would highly recommend this one to anyone interested in camping near the BRICKYARD. Then we spent next evening at the OUTPOST CAMPGROUND near Morehead, Ky.
Coming over the hills of Ky. and into the Mountains of West Va. was a beautiful experience. ( the training I got from our earlier travels through the Ozarks, paid off)
Here at Misty Mountain Judy is cleaning Cabins ( there are 12 available for rent are VERY VERY NICE), she also has restrooms (3 sets) and showers to attend to. I help her for a few hours each morning as there are some that have steep steps to climb into the loft bedrooms, and help her in the restrooms/ showers. I work the Office desk/ camp store then on Wednesday and Thursdays Noon til 8 p.m.
The repairs we done while in Iowa to the 5er seams to have helped. Also THANK YOU JOHNSON MOTORS of Belle Plaine for getting the RAM in great shape for the trek up the Mountains. We averaged 11 mpg towing the 5er and when we took the Boys back to Louisville, Ky last weekend we got 22.2 mpg non-towing . The cats are really adapting to living here,, they are more interested in what we are doing when we are home.. their "vacation " away from us must of made them realized how spoiled they are. LOL. REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN CONTACT US AT jw_long2002@yahoo.com or by phone at 319-521-4458. well add more pictures this week. While the boys were here we went to D.C. one day and took the train into the city.. (more on that later) NITE ALL

WEEK-1 PICAYUNE, MS

WOW!!!!!! We just finished a wonderful week of work with the YOUTH OF PEACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, ORLANDO, FLA. (24 youth and 7 leaders). This kids came to work, and boy did they ever. They left here with 5 families finally back to normal living in their dwellings. ( If there ever will be any thing normal , for them) These Kids primed, painted inside and out after repairing damaged wood areas. Installed laminated flooring for 3 dwellings,,, cleaned up yard debris,, installed kitchen counter tops,, laid down ceramic tile,,repaired damaged paneling,,,,put inlaid paneling around a staircase landing. We just wish that more groups could come as we are still assessing clients problems ,,, but we just don't have the volunteers too help get the work !!!! please be praying that God may lay it the hearts of others to come to this area to assist. Judy did a great job of keeping food and cooking supplies in store for the kids to cook and eat... while John was going around from job site too job site taking requested supplies and fresh ice cold bottled water for the kids. Also became on first name basis with a lot of the staff of local HOME DEPOT

ALERT! ALERT!! THE LONG'S ARE HEADING TO

Several quick notes for tonight: #1: Since we have no volunteers here at Camp New Life (Picayune,Ms) this week we are going too be visiting other Recovery Sites, to see how they are managed and work. We will be at Waveland on Wednesday and Thursday. Then at Gateway on Friday. #2: Please pray for Us,as next week we have 33 volunteers coming from Orlando, Fla. and they will be working on at least 3 different project spread out over Pearl River County and Picayune. #3: On Sunday Judy and I, took an excursion boat Cruise out of Gulfport, Ms. to West Ship Island in the Gulf ( we had such a wonderful weather day for this) . It was an hour each way to the island. We had about a 45 min. tour of the old Fort Massachusetts. (VERY INTERESTING TO JOHN). Then spent the next 90 mins on the South Shore gathering seashells and wading in THE GULF!!!!!!!. Or relaxing in our rented beach chairs ( Judy claims I was only in mine 5 mins. but I KNOW I was there longer, {smile}) Oh and then # 4: We have time available to be away from here, beginning June 15th, so we are headed to IOWA for 10 days to visit family and friends ( and so JOHN can get HIS racing itch satisfied by attending a major Midget Race in Iowa!) So we may be see some of ya'll SOON!!!!! GODS PEACE TO EVERYONE.

THE DODGE HAS GONE TO SEA

Just a short note tonight as not much going on in Picayune volunteer wise. Judy and I went to Waveland, down on the coast , this afternoon to meet Donna and Phil the camp Gulfside site coordinators. After visiting with them we went along the coast towards Bay St. Louis, for the Bridge across the bay reopening. We heard that since the bridge was opening again, the ferry that had been running from Bay St. Louis to Pass Christian was ceasing operations after today. So we decided to take it across and then bring the new bridge back across. Judy took some wonderful pictures,(WHICH I HOPE TO GET ON HERE SOON--- still having a snag) The ferry ride was about 20 mins to the other shore. Well I hope this isn't all boring but would like some feedback. Thanks and GODS PEACE to you all!!!!!! John and Judy

IN THE DEEP SOUTH

HI GANG: No I haven't forgotten how to type, just haven't had a chance since we left Pine Mountain Campground. The 1st couple of days we spent in Montgomery, Ala. There we took in the Capitol, and one of the most beautiful and fun Zoos in the nation. Then we moseyed on down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast so that we could have the time to take in all the effects of hurricane Katrina that are STILL very prominent. We arrived in Picayune, Miss. on Friday May 4th. We are going to be VOLUNTEER SITE COORDINATOR for Mississippi Disaster Recovery til mid July. We spent all of last week learning the paperwork and process of working with the volunteer groups as they come in to work. Judy Bezon, from upstate NY has been volunteering here in this capacity for around 6 weeks. (AND DID A MARVELOUS JOB) . Picayune is approx 45 mins north of New Orleans about 50 miles from the Gulf. The eye of Katrina came right through here and then turned and came back about 90 mins later causing severe wind damage, then water damage from heavy rains, that was too follow. The disaster site for the volunteers is in the Family Life Center of 1st United Methodist Church of Picayune. The FLC is a wonderful facility where there is a huge modern kitchen to feed the workers, and then we have four rooms for dormitory spaces 2 women's and 2 men's. Plus we have shower facilities and other rooms for activities and group meetings. The group (8) last week were from Waynesville, N.C.(hi y'all) and thanks again for the wonderful job you all did and we enjoyed getting to know you. This week there isn't any groups here but we are busy with meetings, going through procedures, and getting minor work done concerning the 5er. Judy's health seems to be more better days then bad ones. We had the pleasure of traveling down to New Orleans as guest of the Waynesville Team last Thursday evening for dinner and small walk around of the French Quarters (THANK YOU WAYNESVILLE for a great evening out). Then for our 1st Anniversary May 13th we grabbed the famous McDonald Senior meal and headed out to the Crosby Autobrium and hiked one of their many trails. Judy and I are both very happy how God has changed our summer plans and that we have an opportunity to be a service for HIM here. WE KNOW THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THE MANY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS FROM OUR MANY MANY FRIENDS AND FAMILIES. For those we thank you and think of you all so much.... please drop us line sometime cause WE DO MISS YOU!!! One lesson God has taught us this year is that GOD always has a PLAN B ready for you . God Bless til later!!!!! John and Judy

US CATS-----Chapter 2

Hi y'all: It looks like Mom and Dad has left us alone again today here at Indian Point campground near Gautier, Ms. They have taken the day to travel around Biloxi area and take in the devastation that is still there from Katrina (note it is a "K" and not a "C" so not related). We heard mom on the phone talking to her sister explaining how bad it is YET!!!!! We have also heard rumors that the folks are in line to take a permanent position here in Waveland, Ms after a few months training in Picayune,Ms. beginning on Monday May 6th. The folks will be working under the auspices of the Mississippi United Methodist Disaster Recovery Team. On the upside leaving Ga was a blessing to get away from those pesky Cardinals... but we sure hated leaving that BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY and VERY FRIENDLY FOLKS. ( Mom says when she decides to settle down too ONE SPOT we can return) We were watching Dad load pictures into the puter and we even had posed? for some maybe we can find a couple to add here. Just remember that Pebbles is the darker one.. LOL, look for our next post soon as we think Dad as forgotten that we can access this.

GEORGIA--- WEEK 2 WRAP-UP

Work here at Pine Mountain Campground is really meager..the people that we had contracted with for our WORKAMPER positions no longer own the camp ground, just managing it this summer. New owners have contracted out the lawn mowing to a lawn service, so John's work is almost nothing,, he spends his 5 hours a day going around on the golf cart trying too look busy ; like gathering trash along the highways out front and back, killing poison ivy, helping Judy with the flower bed weeding and mulching,, trimming hedges, and escorting a few campers to their respected sites.. Judy cleans the rest rooms and showers and is tackling the task of making the flower beds look as good as possible (with out any budget for flower replacement) ,, Today Judy and I went to Plains Ga. Marantha Baptist Church ,, where Former President Jimmy Carter was teaching the Sunday School lesson , the church aud was packed so full, Judy and I had to sit in the Choir loft,,,must of been over 400 people there today mostly all visitors. Plains is a 90 minute drive from here.. those that had their cameras were allowed too have their picture taken with the Carters after worship service,,, I forgot to take our camera so we didn't get one ( this time) . We then toured around Plains some before coming "home" . It was to windy and cool too enjoy much outside. There is a possibility that we might be headed back into Mississippi for more Volunteer work and some possible long term work later ----might happen in mid May please pray that Gods will be done in this matter. We just want every one to have a wonderful week and too Take God along with them daily.

SECRET MESSAGE from THE TRAVELING CATS

Hi to all of you: First off, let me introduce ourselves. We are the TRAVELING CATS, better known as Bam-Bam and Pebbles. We are traveling with Mom and Dad against our will, but we are adjusting ok. We heard that Dad wasn't going to be on here for awhile, so we thought ya' ll might like to hear our side of traveling in a 5er. It is OK , but pretty rocky and bumpy with dad driving up and down all those hill and turns back in Missouri . WE did survive. The only draw back for us cats is that now we are confined to staying inside ( no more roaming the neighborhood), Pebbles as a new playmate here in Ga, a female cardinal keeps attacking the big living room window, so pebbles keeps chasing it away. What fun it is to watch the antics of that bird. Mom keeps coming home in the afternoons with her gardening trowel, pebbles just cannot understand how mom can work in a garden bed with-out pebble ever watchful eye for garden intruders. Me (Bam-Bam) I just spend most of my day staying in the front closet, just out for the mandatory calls of nature. Then I can't wait for darkness when dad gives us our daily treats. I better get off of here, pebbles just meowed that the folks are on their way in. So watch this space from time to time and we will tell ya' all the real story of living in a 5er. THE TRAVELING CATS

IS THIS HEAVEN ???????

Well Judy thinks so ! She got to spend her 1st 4 hours of work weeding the entrance planters. She is suppose to take care of all the plants on property, along with cleaning the restrooms/showers once a workday and then clean the 2 on site cabins when they have been used before her shift. I get to ride around on a golf cart doing minor grounds work (like fallen twigs, branches, and limbs. Or picking up paper trash and other liter.) Then if a camper checks in while i am on duty, I am to escort them to their assigned camp space after they have finished checking in. When mowing season starts guess who will behind the controls. Yes, that's right so watch out wild life. This past Monday, our assignment was to go over to CALLAWAY GARDENS ( to learn about it, so we could share with the campers when asked about it) darn someone has to know about. Judy really thought she had entered heaven while we were there. WE CAN WHOLEHEARTEDLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO VISIT THE GARDENS . Then on Tues. we went to ALDI'S near Atlanta (almost 65 miles away). We kind of missed our turn and ended up only 12 miles outside of Atlanta. So from now on I am going to make sure all of route before we leave camp property. LOL Since we aren't doing so much exciting activities for awhile I probably wont post another update til Monday. Judy and I would like to remind everyone that this is the season to remember why we celebrate Christ coming and dyeing on the cross for all of us. We hope that you all enjoy the time with your family and friends.

WE HAVE LANDED for next 6 months

After working on Thursday a.m. on the duplex , at Rust College, painting the woodwork (Judy) and making various other minor touch ups and helping Cliff and John install the new sub-flooring in the bath room and kitchen areas. Then we had Lunch with Dr. Beckley, the President of Rust, along with 3 other key Administration men. Judy and I then went and started getting the 5er ready for travel and hooking up ( this is becoming easier for us now, as we are becoming PROS )lol. We pulled out of the campus gate at 2:30 pm and headed to Tupelo, Ms where we drove pass Elvis Presley's birth home. Then we drove to Jasper, Ala. were we camped at CAMP WAL-MART, lol (no electricity so we roughed it). We then got up Friday morning and headed to Ga. On the way we passed by Talladega Speedway ( just saw it from the interstate,, didn"t take time to go in,, darn) . About that time Judy spotted a billboard advertising CAMPING WORLD (the ultimate camping and camper supply store) so when we exited there was a Cracker Barrel restaurant, so had lunch first, then on to CW for a brief visit, 2 hours and a few bucks latter, we were back on the road. We arrived at Pine Mountain Camp around 5:30 p.m. (we thought, forgot that NOW we are on Eastern Daylight Time) we semi settled in for the night and ENJOYED NOT DRIVING FOR A WHILE lol. We meet with the campground owners The Jennings on Monday for our assignments... just maybe I might be able to get the pictures to post here, since I will have FREE TIME !!!!Shuuuuu don't tell Judy that i have free time. Judy says that she ready too start Cooking again!!!!

HURRAY HURRAY!!!!!!!!!

Monday: We are in our final 4 days here at RUST COLLEGE, today the NOMAD CREW ( of Millers,Gaisers and Longs, finished the single family house by applying the final coat of paint. Tomorrow we return to the duplex to finish tearing up floors and replacing the under laying, while the rest work finishing getting walls prepped for painting. Over the weekend we took a tour of WALTER HOUSE ( this is where General Grant's family stayed, while he led the Union forces at Vicksburg). What a lovely house inside and out with park like grounds. Tonight Judy and I traveled around looking at history, we found the old train depot that was targeted by the confederates to be destroyed, ask us more about the history and beauty of this neat depot!! if you are interested. We also went into the main oldest cemetery here; again we found beauty and elegance,along with 90 graves of unknown confederate soldiers. {I haven't forgotten about pictures, but am having trouble getting transferred into the puter. sorry but I am trying}

Free Friday!!!!!

Today was an off day from NOMADing,,, so Judy and I took the 5er to near Memphis, Tenn. for some minor repairs. While the 5er was in the shop Judy and I went Memphis sight seeing (Memphis Botanic Garden -which was a bust ,,, they were between blooming seasons) Then we went to the Memphis Zoo- which we would highly recommend if you are an animal person, They had a marvelous cat collection which was well displayed in natural habitats. The zoo sits on 70+ acres in mid-town Memphis and well laid out with (easy access to the freeways-for those so challenged by traffic driving) We got back to the RV shop and found all the repairs made. (JUDY found a new ESCALADE 5er she liked) but the RV salesman would not trade her even up LOL) We got back to Rust College and re-hooked up (John actually did better this time got the entire 5er level and no water leaks or sewer spills) We are going to try to get to a Black Methodist Church on Sun.. We hope everyone is finally getting a taste of nice weather and that ya'all have a beautiful weekend...

2nd week of Rust College completed

We have finished the 2nd week here at Rust College.... all the priming is done, and the final coat has been started. Judy applied the paint on the lower sections 5 siding boards high on 2 sides of the house, while John applied the final coats on the upper sections as far up as he could reach from a 12 ft step ladder on 2 sides. In the evenings we have been playing dominoes some with our NOMAD crew. Please pray that the weather continues too be good so we can finish up the outside work next week.. and while you are praying please remember us on Friday as we take " our house" to the repair shop for some minor repairs....also for safety in doing so...the weather today was in high 70's and mostly sunny. I believe that I might have a sleight farmers tan on my neck and arms,( where the paint spots weren't covering)

Wrap-up of week 1 at Rust College

We were busy people during the 1st week in Mississippi. Our projects consists of rehabbing 2 buildings that are owned by Rust College. One is a duplex where we are cleaning walls , tore out the old bathroom fixtures, along with the sub-flooring. took out the kitchen cabinets and some sub flooring is coming out also... the ladies took up the old carpeting and linoleum though out, it will be replaced. walls are too be repainted.. our team leader Janet Miller, repaired the holes in the dry wall.. The men spent most of the week working on the single dwelling outside. replacing siding, fascia, and trim boards.. We also replaced an outside water spigot. John took off some iron bars from the windows and helped with the other repairs. Judy and John took off all of the window shutters. and the old storm windows,,, It hasn't been all work as we were treated to a ' One woman show' by Sheryl Lee Ralph, an actress of TV and Movies, about AIDS in the black community.. Then on Saturday night we were the Campus BSU student choir perform some gospel sounds,,, quite interesting and different from what we are used too hearing... but heard some very talented singers. Holly Springs itself is an interesting town,,steeped in Civil War history... There are a lot of Antebellum Houses to look at. Including one where Gen. Grants' family stayed while he was commanding the Union Forces down here. Another where he held his headquarters... The Presbyterian Church lower floor was used as the stables for the Union Army. We have encountered some minor problems with our "home" so we will be taking it up near Memphis on Friday ,, to get the repairs done... maybe get to see Graceland while there. The couple from Indiana are John and Sally Gaiser,, very experienced NOMADS

RUST COLLEGE-DAY 1

we found that the drive over to Holly Springs, from North Little Rock, was very therapeutic for John. As the Interstate show helped with giving him some much needed confidence in handling the behind the wheel skills needed for navigation. There are 3 couples on our Nomad team here at Rust College. Janet and Cliff Miller, from near Dubuque, Iowa and John and Sally (last name will come later post) from near Bedford, Indiana. We are going too be repairing a home owned be the college and lived in by the administrative assistant to the college president. We took off some window coverings ( iron bars) , storm windows, and some rotting boards today. Judy will be doing some sort of office work in the Library beginning Tuesday.. PLEASE PRAY for her , as her stamina and pain tolerance has not been tolerable this weekend. R&R @Little Rock

We arrived in North Little Rock and set up the 5er at Burns Park ( a very nice park and easy access to from the I-40 ) John wants to thank ya all for the prayers , as the trip over the 22 ups and downs ,around the 55 twist and turns went with not a hesitation on the part of our trusty Dodge Ram. We want to thank the Staff of ' Lives Under Construction' for their gracious hosipitality and the privilege of staying at one of Gods Most picturesques places.. Folks please continue praying for the Ortmans and the LUC staff as they have a great need in finding the funding needed too continue their ministry (especially critical at this time is in budget concerns for meat). We plan on sight seeing and visiting with Gary and Donna Auld (Judy's brother and sister in-law) on Friday and Saturday morning, than on to Holly Springs, Mississippi. We are anxious to get there and meet up with the Millers (NOMADS from near Dubuque, Ia; whom were our 1st personal contacts with NOMADS) will be our team leaders at Rusk College.

Judy is too get some gardening in the rest of our visit here. Today I had the opportunity too work with one of the most trobled boy with his studies...( most of the boys are home schooled til they catch up with the local public school system; then they join in the regular classroom) This boy i worked with on Monday usually does not stay on tasks and is very disrupted .. but through Gods guidence I didn't have any major problems and all the regular staff was dismayed at the co-operation I received from him. Another project i completed over the weekend was the painting of the Boys dorm shower room floor with a special paint,, I also helped transfer 22 large round bales of hay over 60 miles away back too the LUC Ranch so the cattle , buffalo and other animals have feed. Our plans now are too wrap up our projects by Thurs noon so please remember us in prayer as we are on the road again. ( ALSO THAT JOHN DOESN'T HAVE PROBLEMS GETTING OUT OF HERE 0ver those 22 ups and downs along with the 55 twist and turns.....we are going to try to get some pictures tomorrow as it is suppose too be really nice around 55 and only partially cloudy...REMEMBER that God does still works miricles Judy and I have witness 1st hand many such ones this past week...so please keep up the prayers that HIS works keep happening.
