OUR ADVENTURELAND SUMMER part 3

Endeavor Greetings:

This morning we are sharing how our cameras saw Adventureland in Altoona, Ia; just off of I-80 outside of Des Moines, Iowa.

One of the 1st rides one finds upon entering the A-land gates is the A-Train plus station pictured here.

Here Judy is getting ready to broad the A-Train.

The A-Train pulling into the station .

This was Judy's favorite ride
The Space shot.

John's is the Underground,
in the picture below is our friend and co -worker Pat Carter on the left of Judy.

The Big Wheel is one of the busiest rides

The Tornado is the largest roller coaster,
here it is approaching the top of Hill 1

The Outlaw is a wooden roller coaster, down in the GULCH, this is coming down the 1st drop.

The Dragon is a metal roller coaster with a double loop and figure 8 curve.

The Sidewinder is also one of the rides with the longest lines.

Two of the Kiddie rides are the Red Barren to the left and the Truck Convoy below .

The Frenzy Freeway (bumber cars) was enjoyed by both of us.

There are more than 100 rides and shows at ADVENTURELAND including a circus. we really, really was impressed with Ben Urlin, the Magician. who performed in the Sheriff Sam's Saloon.

There are numerous eating areas such as

Petunia Pig, where one can get peanuts, popcorn, lemonade and pickles on a stick.

Below is a view of campground right next to Adventureland, the Endeavor, is just to the right and 2 rows up from the comfort station, with the red roof in the foreground.

This was taken from the BIG WHEEL

OUR ADVENTURELAND SUMMER part 2

ENDEAVOR'S greetings:

We are going to share our ADVENTURELAND SUMMER with you all in 2 or 3 post over the next 3 or 4 days.

We arrived here in Altoona on April19th. After a week down on the East Coast of Iowa.
The Endeavor and Lil' Red are docked in Adventureland Campground Z-22

This was home base all summer as we took advantage of visiting places and friends/ family in Iowa on our "off"time. Some of our early excursions found us doing /going over to Olewein to visit Rich,,, then in May we shared with the folks at Christ United Methodist Church , Belle Plaine, the past Ministries projects we had over the past winter.

We were in Winterset, Ia. to spend a day with The Iowa Wild Roses. Escapees Chapter, while there we went to the John Wayne Home and a few or the Covered Bridges of Madison County.

We visited the Iowa Historical Museum; Where we were overwhelmed with all of the neat displays of Iowa History.
We also found the Iowa Military Museum, at Camp Dodge in Johnson, Ia. There we saw Iowans role in the military conflicts dating from the Civil War through Iraq. Highly recommend that when you are in the area you take time and visit.

As you can see Judy even managed to get us up to Reiman Gardens, in Ames. Also another must see Iowa attraction.

Then there was the weekly farmers market in down town Des Moines (which covered 7 city blocks) and had delicious foods to munch on as you strolled around. There were street corner musician playing for our enjoyment.

We really enjoyed our weekly Saturday morning trips downtown.

Of course it was in late May, that we began our Tuesday nights Bluegrass listening in Indianola, where we heard some of the best young folks and the various guest performers as they traveled through.

Next post will be when John's boys came to spend a week with us, along with a picture tour of ADVENTURELAND, as seen through the combined lenses of both of our cameras.

May God continue to Bless each of you.
and we want to thank each of you that support us through your prayers, calls and notes of encouragement, and those that share in our Ministries through giving either at Christ United or through Christian Resort Ministries.

Love and HUGS to each from The Longs On The Road for Christ: Judy and John along with the Traveling cats Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles

John's office on wheels, while on duty, was this 2008 Chevy

We also were responsible for facilitating the bible based small group study on Wednesday evenings (ave 10 participants) We were part of the Weekly Wednesday Morning Bible Study (ave attendance of 17 people) On Sunday mornings we saw the Chapel in the park almost always filled with worshipers . Was so neat to see such a faithful Christian Community among our fellow A- landers. Judy and John also was the CRM Chaplains in charge of visitation to those in the hospitals and laid up in their RVs.

Tuesdays evenings (til the end of July) found us in Indianola. Ia enjoying BLUEGRASS TUESDAYS, thank you Jim Johnson of FOOLS of BLUEGRASS band for organizing these great programs,
